Safety precautions needed at the Gas pumps

It is not without reason that the regulations in regard to safety norms at the gas pumps are extremely strict. The risks of environmental hazards and other accidents at the gas station is considerably higher than most of the other businesses. As a gas station owner we are sure that apart from the statutory norms you would always want to keep your gas pump safe. However in order to ensure the complete safety, not only must the gas station workers be fully familiar with the dangers of accidents at gas stations and the strict regulations which need to be complied with. But your customers need to be made aware of the risks involved and thus follow the rules in regard to safety at the gas pumps. The following are some important points which are necessary for safety at the gas pumps.

1.     Risks of turning engine  on while refueling
You must realize that when a car is idling the engine parts are still rubbing together. The
many parts like the spark plugs are firing, and the electric system of the car is working. As a result some electrical components of the car may generate sparks which might cause the vappours of gasoline to ignite and cause a major fire. Thus while refueling the engine should not be started as it could cause a major fire.

2.     Not smoking at the gas station
Smoking at the gas station is a major risk that could cause a major fire at the gas pump. One must realize that gasoline is highly inflammable, which could catch fire even with a small spark. Thus no smoking should be allowed at the gas pumps at any point of time.

3.     Avoid spills at the gas station
The staff at the gas station must be well trained. They must try and avoid any spills while filling up at the gas station. Not only spills mean loss of expensive gasoline, but also is a great environmental hazard as well. Gas on the ground could ignite at any time. So avoid oil spills at all times.

4.     Not using substandard gas station equipment
It is true that using used Gasoline Dispensers and used Gas Pumps is a great way to cut down on the operational costs at the gas station. However at the same time as a gas station owner you must ensure that if you use used gas station equipment they are of the best quality and supplied by reliable suppliers in the field.
